Run or Don’t

If the authorities had bothered to broadcast a message, it would’ve been, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the planet is undergoing an irreversible process of sterilization. Running won’t save you, but it won’t hurt either, so do as you please.” But such a message is of use to no one and they didn’t bother broadcasting it, opting instead to kill themselves and avoid the waiting.
